    Educational Value

Really brought the content to life for the students.

    The Show and Event

The show really delivered on its promise of being 'interactive'. The students were up and down to the stage area and the actors were up in the audience! Almost every student had the opportunity to participate in some way.

    The Audience

The students loved the show and are still talking about it today! Their own words to describe it were 'surprising', 'alive', 'captivating', 'unpredictable' and 'entertaining'. I think it will stay in their minds for a long time to come!

Review the booking process and Iconic Performances.

My only negative: It would be nice to have one contact person right from the beginning. Each time that I emailed, I was dealt with by a different event manager. It would be nice to have an email address and contact number for one person throughout the whole process.

    Educational Value

I always appreciate the historical accuracy of the shows.

    The Show and Event

We two teachers thought it was an excellent idea to get the classes marching around while the scene change was undertaken. It's certainly better than having them sit the whole time.

    The Audience

Some of the children questioned whether the marines were as harsh as the show made them seem, so the production seemed to stimulate their curiosity beyond what we have read and discussed in class. I did intend to ask the class further what they thought, but did not have time for such a discussion today.

Review the booking process and Iconic Performances.

Thank you for taking note of my previous comments, where I have suggested that the content was sometimes a little too bawdy for this age group. I felt that, this year, the production was not inappropriate at any time.

The students were very enthusiastic to join in and enjoyed joining in immensely.

    The Audience

The convict was funny and the sergeant was very loud and cranky! The students all enjoyed the show and could relate to many aspects of the performance considering the curriculum they have been taught already and are able to recall things from the performance for things they are learning after the performance.

-Words for the songs should have been displayed for the students to follow and participate -Irish Jig, there isn't an opportunity withing the school day to be able to learn it, it is not part of the curriculum. -Heads up about the water being thrown over students. The amount of water used was far too much. We suggest a spray bottle or a bucket of paper for effect.

    Educational Value

The Colonial Experience was a great interactive resource for getting the children to really see the harshness of the convict era. There was no "romanticising" of the convict experience, and the show was realistic in its portrayal of the times. The educational value is sufficient that we fully intend to book the Colonial Experience again.

    The Show and Event

It was good to see that audience engagement was high - more so than last year's show.

    The Audience

As the show was on Friday, I have not had the opportunity to follow it up with the children yet. There will be time for discussion in class on Monday.

Review the booking process and Iconic Performances.

All round, it was an excellent production, and the fact that the actors and production team have been working to improve it since last year, was evident. While we understand that the use of music was designed to enhance the experience, there were a few times when it was difficult to hear the characters over the music. Thus, some of the impact was lost. By the way, this survey has two spelling mistakes - "relevent" instead of "relevant" on the first page, and "borring" instead of "boring" on the second page.

The actors were excellent! Engaging and very 'real' as their characters. With the introduction of the New NSW History Curriculum, the content of the show perhaps needs updating to reflect both Stage 2 'First Fleet' related outcomes as well as the Stage 3 'Colonial' Outcomes. The Stage 3 outcomes are more connected to life in the colony after 1800, as so the 'wedding proposal' improvisation and the 'plaintiff' improvistaion were exceptionally relevant, however the lengthy re-tell of the First Fleets journey would be more suited to the Stage 2 content. For your information, HSIE will no longer be taught from 2017. History has been implemented this year. Geography will be implemented next year.
