Kids Happy, Playing Characters Interactive Adventure of the First Fleet, School Show, Incursion, Excursion, Students, Shows, Performances (convict students role play for schools) and Iconic Performances school excursions, incursions, school performances, camps, British Colonisation, Australian History,

The COLONIAL SHOW school incursion is a complete interactive educational show that allows children to experience what life was like back in the Colonial Times, during the Colonisation of Australia. With authentic equipment, real-life anecdotes, songs and events from the past, the Colonial Show is not only a must for all students learning about Australia History, it is a must - see performance based on the audience interactive entertainment component that just completes the learning outcomes of this unit for teachers.

The whole day event is a perfect performance and resource which gives students an opportunity to interact with characters and experience life in Sydney Town in the early Colony of New South Wales 1788 - 1809 which is no longer accessible.

Schools, children, students and teacher will have exclusive, almost never before seen access to the nation‘s fledgling beginnings as a penal colony. The educational show is based on the Learning Outcomes of the Unit – “British Colonisation in Australia”, Stage 2 in the Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE) Syllabus. This educational show can ALSO be incorporated in the (COGS.) Connected Outcomes Group Support Curriculum and also the National Curriculum of Australian History. While the show is aimed at Years 3 and 4 it is suitable for the entire primary school. The educational show allows students to participate as the colonial time span comes alive with authentic props and professional actors. The Colonial Show school incursion brings to life with utter realism the story of Australia's colonisation.

The Colonial Show school incursion begins with the students being introduced to the larrikin Irish convict James Murphy and female convict Ann Fowles and experienced the hardships of the day and the oppression and tyranny they faced at the hands of the soldiers (Redcoats), and Sergeant Kennedy engages the students in the story of the Military.

The students relive the Voyage of the First Fleet, under the command of Captain Arthur Phillip, raising of the King’s Colours and participate in a recruitment of soldiers into the New South Wales Corp nicknamed the Rum Corps.

This is where the fun begins as your students and school experience the repercussions of the theft of damper and the arrest of the convict right in front of their eyes. The question is...

  • Can your students accurately become the magistrate for the trial of James Murphy and sentence him to a flogging?

  • Can they hold their wits and tell the story of the Black Velvet Band and how the British Government introduced the practise of Cribbing which framed tradesmen for the crime of theft?

  • Can they bear to hear the serious, yet funny stories of the characters and the reason they were sent to the Colony of NSW?

There is only one way to find out ... Book your ticket to the most exciting Australian Historical Renactment ever seen.

The Colonial Show school incursion is a whole day experience right in the safety of your school grounds.
It is a perfect event to have at your school to encourage, stimulate or enhance what the students are learning and is one of the best educational resources in Australia.

The Colonial Show school incursion was born out of the closure of Old Sydney Town, situated on the Central Coast, 2003.

The Colonial Show school incursion was written by qualified and experienced school teachers and is well scripted to enhance the learning outcomes taught in the school classroom.

    Educational Value

All the teachers were very impressed with the quality of the Colonial Show. It engaged the students for the whole day, the songs, the marching, the acting out of different parts by students and others picked at random form the audience was great. The content really supported our 'First Fleet' topic, we all got into the theme of it by making it a dress up day too!

    The Show and Event

The students loved being involved. The students also loved seeing the teachers being chosen too.

Management Reply to Review How nice is to hear how much your students learnt and experienced from the Colonial Show for Primary Schools. As you know the show does not have a flogging and this is only implied. What is positive is how well you handled the possibility of the flogging and of course this allowed your students to sympathise with what the convicts actually went through.

    Educational Value

It was a great show. The day was well planned and the actors/production team were organised. My students enjoyed the interactive parts of the show and learnt more about the British Colonisation of Australia.

    The Show and Event

Some children were a little upset with the potential flogging of the convict but we were able to have them move elsewhere during that scene.

How exhausting for the actors! They did a wonderful job.

    The Show and Event

Some children would have like to be able to do more - although I know this is very tricky and quite a few did have special moments.

    The Audience

This is such fun! Why did we just walk around then? He's funny

Management Reply to Review The scene you are talking about is called the Black Velvet Band. Historically this is all about how Sydney Cove was built between 1806 to 1815 including John Codmans Cottage and Hyde Park Barracks. Without the trickery used by the British Empire the convicts would not have had skilled tradesmen to build Sydney. It is sung in the song and shows the trickery that was used to send skilled workers to build Sydney. This is part of the National Curriculum and please do not forget that we are a production company and provide a high quality show that allows you as a teacher to expand on the knowledge of what your students experienced from the show.

We weren't sure how the third session, black velvet band, worked with the educational content or age group.

The sergeant was very loud! The convict was hard to understand his accent. Why was Sofia (black velvet band) giving Sayla and Lilly alcohol?

Management Reply to Review Hi Jessica, Looking at your booking you actually choose a higher number of tickets purchased to receive a larger group discount. We do have options in place to help you avoid the thing you experienced. Most customers will purchase a smaller number of tickets to avoid the possibility of children not attending. You lose the discount but you also do nit ahve this happen to you. Please understand that we need to know the number to plan the number of actirs crew fo the size of the show. The smaller a group the less number of equipment, and crew is needed. We are a production company and not a back yard business with one suit case. I recommend next time purchase less tickets first and like our terms and conditions you can purchase more 14 days before the event date.

When booking School programs, buying a certain number of tickets is hard for us before being able to invoice the students and knowing how many will turn up. It would have been good to have final numbers to you a week or so prior and then paid.
